North America to see 125 gigawatts of wind power by 2017 – Pike

The increasing trend toward consolidation in the wind power industry, with major wind power technology manufacturers acquiring wind farm development companies as a strategy for ensuring the use of their turbines, will lead to the growth of the North American market, a research firm said. Current analysis by Pike Research projects that North America will see a surge in both onshore and offshore wind installations and reach 125 gigawatts by 2017, with $145 billion in investments.

First Wind, RES Americas complete U.S. wind farms

Massachusetts-based wind energy company First Wind has completed its 35-megawatt wind project in Buffalo, New York, which will tap the winds of the Great Lakes region. EDF Energies to construct 324 MW Mexican wind farms

French renewable energy group EDF Energies Nouvelles said it has bought two wind projects in Mexico with a total capacity of 324 megawatts, reinforcing its presence in the country. EDF EN, 50-percent owned by French utility EDF, purchased the wind farms from independent producer Eolia Renovables of Inversiones through its Mexican subsidiary Electrica del Valle de Mexico.
