Hereford Wind Project in Texas begins commercial operations

The 200-megawatt Hereford Wind Project in Texas has achieved commercial operation. EDF Renewable Energy, which purchased shares of the project in 2013 (see related story),announced that the wind farm commenced operations in December 22, 2014. The Hereford Wind Project encompasses approximately 15,000 acers in Deaf Smith County, southeast of the town of Hereford. The project commenced construction in November of 2013. A.D.B. provides Thailand with $85 million to develop wind power plant

The Asian Development Bank will be providing a company in Thailand loans to develop a wind power plant in the country. The A.D.B. has signed an agreement to provide $55 million and an additional $30 million from the A.D.B.-administered Clean Technology Fund to Chaiyaphum Wind Farm Company Limited, a special purpose firm that is 90 percent owned by Electricity Generating Public Company and 10 percent by Pro Ventum. Siemens supplying turbines for 48-MW wind farm in Kansas

Siemens will be supplying 21 wind turbines for a 48 megawatt wind power project in Kansas. The turbines will be supplied to NJR Clean Energy Ventures, a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources, to be used at their Alexander wind project in Rush, Kansas. The project is located around 120 miles northwest of Wichita. It is expected to be operational by the fall of 2015. Vestas supplies 298 MW worth of turbines to Oklahoma wind project

Wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has received an order from First Reserve for 298 megawatts worth of wind turbines for a project in Oklahoma. The firm and unconditional order is for 149 V100-2.0 MW turbines which will be installed at the 298 MW Kingfisher Wind project. The project, scheduled to be completed in 2015, is expected to be one of the two largest single-phase wind projects in Oklahoma. Vestas to supply wind turbines in Greece and Chile

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas ended 2014 with two supply contracts: one in Greece and the other in Chile. In Greece, Terna Energy ordered 73.2 megawatts worth of wind turbines. The contract, which is for the Agios Georgios wind power plant, consists of nine V90-3.0 MW turbines and 14 V112-3.3 MW machines. Vestas wins orders from U.K., Poland, and Turkey

Wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has received firm and unconditional orders from the United Kingdom, Poland, and Turkey. In the U.K., Vestas has received an order for 32 V164-8.0 MW turbines for the offshore Burbo Bank Extension project in Liverpool Bay. The order, which totals at 258 megawatts, was placed by DONG Energy. The contract covers supply, installation, and commissioning of the wind turbines, as well as a five-year full-scope service contract. Panamanian wind project gets $300 million in funding

The second phase of the Penonome Wind project in Panama was the recipient of project financing from the World Bank. According to Goldwind USA, a subsidiary of Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co., Ltd., the International Finance Corporation of the World Band has provided $300 million for the wind power project which will be located in the Province of Cocle. Senvion successfully commissions phase one of 350 MW wind farm in Canada

Senvion SE, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Suzlon Group, has completed the first phase of the 350 megawatt Rivière-du-Moulin wind farm in Canada. Senvion has so far installed and commissioned 75 of the 175 Senvion MM82 and MM92 type turbines that are specially made for cold climate. Vestas to supply turbines for Africa’s largest wind power plant

Vestas has received an order for the 310 megawatt Lake Turkana Wind Power project in Kenya, Africa. Vestas will be providing the Lake Turkana Wind project with 365 of its V52-850 kW turbines. The order is the largest in the company’s history in terms of wind turbines for a single project. The turbine order was placed by Lake Turkana Wind Power Ltd. which expects to complete the wind power project in 2017. Senvion wins five contracts in Portugal

Suzlon Group subsidiary Senvion SE has won a turnkey contract with Ancora Wind – Energia Eolica, S.A. for wind turbines for five wind farms in Portugal. The turnkey contract is for the delivery and installation of 84 wind turbines that have a total rated power of 171.6 megawatts for all the five wind farms. Two of the wind farms, Moimenta I and II, will each have 21 Senvion MM92 turbines, while the Picos Vale do Chao wind farm will have 11 Senvion MM92 turbines.
