Three groups start head-on fight for France’s 3-GW offshore tender

Three consortia led by Iberdrola S.A. and two rival utilities in France have all submitted bids to secure five spots in the French coast earmarked for the development of the country’s first offshore wind farms. The French government had announced plans to have 6 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2020 as it tries to meet a target of sourcing 23 percent of its energy from renewables by 2020.

China’s Goldwind continues South American supply deals

Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Company agreed to make available 23 turbines fit for low wind speeds for a project in Chile. Suzlon turbines to be used in 135-MW South African wind project

Suzlon Energy, the world’s fifth largest wind turbine supplier, will provide turbines for a 135 megawatt wind project to be built on the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The Cookhouse Wind Energy Facility will have up to 200 wind turbines and a generation capacity enough to power over 88,000 homes. It has successfully secured a power purchase agreement under the South African REBID procurement process.

Vestas China producing 49-meter blades for 2-MW wind turbines

Vestas China said it has produced the first batch of 49-meter long wind turbine blades in their manufacturing complex in Tianjin, northern China. With this first batch, Vestas China is now poised to start mass manufacturing of the blades at their manufacturing complex in the Tianjin Economic Development Area, Chinadaily.com reported.

Siemens finishes MidAmerican Energy wind turbine project in Iowa

Siemens A.G. subsidiary Siemens Energy Inc. completed the expansion of Iowa energy company MidAmerican Energy’s wind turbine project in the state. Thirteen Siemens wind turbines were put up at the Pomeroy wind expansion project located in the Pocahontas and Calhoun counties, adding 29.9 megawatts of electricity for Iowa’s households. General contractor Mortenson Construction will erect three wind projects in Iowa in this year.

Google invests $55 million in 1.55-gigawatt California wind farm

Google will invest $55 million to finance a section of a 1.55-gigawatt wind farm being built in California, raising the amount of money the Internet search giant has spent into clean energy projects to $400 million. The money will finance the fourth phase of the Alta Wind Energy Center being developed by North Carolina-based Terra-Gen Power, L.L.C. in the Tehachapi Mountains.
