Enbridge, RES Canada open 99-MW wind project near Lake Superior

Enbridge Inc. has completed a 99-megawatt wind farm in Ontario that will harness the winds coming off Lake Superior to generate enough electricity for 34,000 households. Enbridge and Renewable Energy Systems Canada Inc. have invested approximately $275 million on the Greenwich Wind Farm, which was completed late 2011 but officially opened on June 15 in celebration of Global Wind Day 2012.

$150 million secured for E.On’s Illinois wind farm

E.On Climate & Renewables North America secured $150 million in equity financing from Bank of America Merrill Lynch for the Pioneer Trail wind farm in Illinois. With the agreement, Bank of America Merrill Lynch will have a partial interest in the 150-megawatt wind farm currently being built in Ford and Iroquois counties.

Acciona opens 56-MW Tuppandahalli wind farm in India

Acciona Energy has inaugurated the 56.1 megawatt Tuppadahalli wind park in Karnataka state in India. The project is the third installation of this type in India for Acciona Energy, a division of Spanish conglomerate, the Acciona Group.

Siemens’ first wind turbine order in Chile bound for El Arrayan

Siemens Energy will be shipping out its first wind power products for Chile for the country’s largest wind project, El Arrayan. The company has received an order for 50 of its “SWT-2.3-101” wind turbines that will have a combined capacity of 115 megawatts for the wind farm.

Chile’s largest wind project begins construction

Construction has begun for Chile’s largest wind project, the 115-megawatt El Arrayan, after the wind farm’s completion of $245 million in financing from several international companies. Located 400 kilometers north of the capital of Santiago, the El Arrayan project will harness the strong coastal winds in the area to provide enough energy to serve up to 200,000 local homes.

First Wind gets $76 million for their fifth Maine wind farm

United States wind company First Wind is set to begin construction on their fifth wind project in the state of Maine, the 34-megawatt Bull Hill Wind, after getting hold of $76 million in construction financing. A subsidiary of First Wind closed the $70 million non-recourse construction loan and $6 million in letters of credit for the project. Bull Hill Wind will install 19 Vestas wind turbines on Bull Hill and Heifer Hill ridges in Hancock County, Maine. Installation is expected to take place during the summer of 2012, and the project is expected to be online by yearend.

Vestas to deliver turbines to Latin America’s largest wind farm

Danish wind giant Vestas has confirmed that it will be delivering 396 megawatts’ worth of turbines for the largest wind energy project in Latin America by the second quarter. Vestas said it’s delivering 132 units of their 3-MW “V90” wind turbines to the Mareña Renovables project in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in the state of Oaxaca, southern Mexico.

G.E., JP Morgan invest in 662-MW Capricorn Ridge wind farm in Texas

GE Energy Financial Services partnered with JP Morgan to invest $225 million on the 662.5-megawatt Capricorn Ridge wind farm in West Texas which is majority owned by a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, L.L.C. The move aims to expand G.E.’s renewable energy portfolio in Texas, where they have already invested in 2,143 MW worth of wind farm capacity, which is 20 percent of the entire state’s wind capacity.

Mareña Renovables wind farm completes $682 million financing

A 396-megawatt wind energy project in Oaxaca, Mexico would begin construction in March following the completion of project financing worth 8.9 billion Mexican pesos ($682 million). The Mareña Renovables wind power project will cost approximately $1 billion and will be jointly developed by Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation, the Macquarie Mexican Infrastructure Fund and PGGM.

Central America’s first major wind farm goes online

The 102-megawatt Cerro de Hula facility, the first wind farm in Honduras, has formally started energy production. The wind farm, which lies 24 kilometers south of the capital Tegucigalpa, was inaugurated in an event attended by Honduran President Porfirio Lobo last week. It began commercial operations in December. National utility Empresa Nacional de Energía Eléctrica has a 100-megawatt, 20-year power purchase deal from the facility. It is expected to give enough clean power for 150,000 households.
