Acciona opens 56-MW Tuppandahalli wind farm in India

Acciona Energy has inaugurated the 56.1 megawatt Tuppadahalli wind park in Karnataka state in India.

The project is the third installation of this type in India for Acciona Energy, a division of Spanish conglomerate, the Acciona Group.

The 58 million euro ($73.4 million) Tuppadahalli farm will generate enough clean energy to power around 35,000 average Indian homes and avoid the emissions of 129,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide a year.

Energy generated at the farm is being sold to the state owned distribution utility MESCOM.

The Tuppadahalli farm is registered as a Clean Development Mechanism project under the Kyoto protocol and will generate certified emission reduction credits that can be traded on the carbon market.

Aside from the Tuppadahalli farm, Acciona Energy owns and operated two other wind farms in India. Also located in Karnataka state, these are the 13.2 MW Arasinagundiand the 16.5 MW Anabaru.

The Tuppadahalli farm is the largest of these and increases Acciona's wind power portfolio in the country to 85.8 MW.

As of March of this year, Acciona Energy had installed around 8.4 gigawatts of wind power in 283 sites in 15 countries. Acciona owns most of this, with 6.9 GW owned by company and 1.4 GW installed for clients. – EcoSeed Staff
