$6.5 million to go to renewables by Native American tribes

Nineteen clean energy projects proposed by tribal communities will get a total of $6.5 million in funding according to the United States Department of Energy. The Tribal Energy Program, which began in 2002, is part of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, with the Office of Indian Energy Policy and Programs. It provides financial and technical assistance to Native American Tribes to allow them to evaluate and develop their renewable energy resources and reduce their energy

Australian government launches $1 billion low-carbon fund

The Australian government is releasing up to 1 billion Australian dollars ($1.08 billion) to reduce pollution and to help manufacturers implement programs that cut costs by lessening energy use. Through two programs launched Thursday by industry and innovation and climate change minister Greg Combet, the government will provide grants to eligible manufacturers to allow them to make changes to their operations that will result in reduced carbon footprint.

SME’s in Ukraine to get $50 million energy efficiency financing

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is issuing a $50 million five-year loan to the State Export-Import Bank of Ukraine for energy efficiency. The aim is to support a lending program where small and medium-sized enterprises in the country can borrow up to $3 million to implement energy efficiency projects.

Windows account for an estimated 4 quadrillion British thermal units of energy lost in United States buildings each year. That adds up to over $35 billion in heating and air conditioning costs, or 25 percent of a home’s heat loss in the winter or heat gain in the summer. With D.O.E.-funding, Philadelphia-based window manufacturer Traco said it developed low-emissivity windows, which it says can reduce energy loss from heating and air conditioning by 40 percent.

Norway-India research projects scout for low-carbon opportunities

Three low-carbon energy research projects in India are getting a total of around 18 million Norwegian kroner ($3 million) from the Research Council of Norway under a research cooperation program between the two countries. “The three projects that will now receive funding are in the areas of geology and wave energy.
