Nineteen governors from the Southern Governors Association are backing up EcoDrivingUSA, Auto Alliance’s educational program for green driving launched a year ago.

The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers is an association of 11 vehicle manufacturers including BMW Group, Chrysler Group LLC, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz USA, Mitsubishi Motors, Porsche, Toyota and Volkswagen Group of America committed to improving the environment and motor vehicle safety.

According to the Auto Alliance website, the support of the governors will help people know that driving and vehicle maintenance best practices, which are subtle and easy-to-use, can improve mileage by an average of 15%.

Bob Riley, mayor of Alabama; Haley Barbour (Mississippi); Jay Nixon (Missouri), Martin O'Malley (Maryland); Bev Perdue (North Carolina); Luis Fortuno (Puerto Rico); Mark Sanford (South Carolina); John De-Jongh (Virgin Islands); Tim Kaine (Virginia) and Joe Manchin (West Virginia) are the latest additions to the association.

Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers (Auto Alliance) President and CEO Dave McCurdy said that EcoDriving was launched so that consumers can adjust their driving and vehicle maintenance habits.
