Wisconsin utilities' state-wide program for energy efficiency and renewable energy Focus on Energy gives financial incentives to homebuyers who plan to build energy efficient homes under the New Homes Program.
The financial incentives will be given to homeowners through the North Shore Bank in the form of mortgage loans at low rates for Wisconsin residents.
"If you're in the market to build a new home, an energy-efficient home is a smart investment. You'll save money, enjoy better air quality, and have a more durable home. And, now Focus on Energy New Homes are even more appealing because of loan rates that are less than the national average," Focus on Energy Senior Programs Manager Carter Dedolf said.
When a homebuyer applies for a loan at the North Shore Bank, they have to find a local builder who is affiliated with the New Homes Program. A consultant from Focus on Energy will visit the site for inspection.
The home will be constructed based on rigid Focus on Energy standards for energy efficiency and safety. The consultant will perform final inspection. If the home passed, it will be certified as a Focus on Energy New Home. Homeowners can move in and will pay their low mortgage loan monthly to North Shore Bank. Some of the advantages that can be derived from building an energy efficient home are lower energy bills, certification from a third-party energy consultant, and high reselling chances. According to mortgage loan originator for North Shore Bank John Rovinski, the bank recognizes the savings derived from being energy efficient. Mr. Rovinski said that this is why the bank created a special package for those who have energy efficient homes following Focus on Energy's standards and to allow higher current debt to income ratios.
