Understanding this mainly becoming typical ‘S’ word has always been part of the diverse world we have in today’s. More than any other context, new media, academe, the corporate and even the community division have conveyed the term sustainability to the mainstream mind of the modern humanity. Though great numbers people are now aware of this noise breaking ‘buzz word’, the perspective to it is still untapped. Many will take sustainability as simply closely related to the environment but what’s most of us overlooked into the box of our perspective is that, sustainability is more than just that. It is capability to maintain a definite status or process in existing systems. It is a responsibility that has been placed upon us, humans, to guarantee the future of our planet. We are all sentient of the melting caps, the increasing carbon footprints, the devastating dilemma of scarcity and even the crass amplification of water and air pollution. From now, sustainability issues have moved up the economic and political schema and they can no longer be disregarded.
Everyone is being part of the shift and the drift of green sustainability. All aspects are being stirred, even the business sector, the energy consumption apprehension, up to the very emaciated line involving individual lifestyle and behavior. Trends in sustainable energy are rising over time. And being updated from time to time concerning what’s happening to this issue is an essential first jump to maintain sustainability in character.
More Businesses Are Pressured To Go Green and Be Green
The drive for businesses in today’s leap on the green bandwagon won’t come from the government or other big element rather from the simply growing green consumers. The augment of consumer consciousness regarding environmental issues leads the way to the growing consumer’s expectations. According to an article in Forbes.com, 72 percent of consumers are more particular with the product and brand that supports a good cause over the one that doesn’t and the entitlement still boosting as era goes by.
In fact, in recent statements, there are a dozen of business giants that pledged to boost more sustainability with in terms to agriculture setting. As agriculture is facing the dispute with in terms to the growing population and food demand, water availability, soil health and climate change, companies like Walmart, Monsanto and Kellogg settled to bring 8 million acres of farmland into sustainable agriculture programs and get rid of 6 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Even the fast food giant like McDonald launches also its wide-ranging sustainability framework that will hack environmental impact of supply chain and operations, as well as committing to increase the energy efficient in company-owned restaurant by 20 percent in seven of its top market by 2020. The said fast food giant will also enhance in-restaurant recycling by 50 percent in its nine top markets. By these figures alone it seems like sustainability is and will be the next-generation business thinking – not only creating value to the business aesthetics itself but also to the consumers, capital and funding.
Green Buildings Are On Exciting Rise
Green movement has arrived at an exciting new height. Real estate owners, developers and tenant were dedicated to environmentally sustainable practices and principles. A 2013 McGraw-Hill Construction global report establish that 51% of architects, engineers, contractors, consultants and building owners that was surveyed in 62 countries utter that approximately 60% of their work will be “green’ by 2015. The inference of this statistics leads to more smash that growingly building specialist will closely look not only to the design but also to the green context of the each establishments and projects. Condominium sustainability, for example, can trigger a big impact on the sustainable construction setting as the hype of net-zero energy buildings are on forthcoming ascends. Companies such as GE, Honeywell, Siemens and Whirlpool are into undulating out a smarter, more energy-efficient designs and appliances, lighting and energy management systems. Therefore the rise of green building will still be in obvious as eco-correctness principle is concern despite the fact that payback phase can be long.
Clothiers Are Making Their Drift to Sustainability
These days, not only businessmen and architects are migrating in a greener movement. Even clothiers and the clothing industry itself are giving more consideration to the output of discarding used clothing. It may sound outrageous but the clothing we wear and what we do with it after we used truly affects the health of the environment.
A report from the Environmental Protection Agency states that there is only about 15% of the 13 million tons of clothing and other textiles thrown away each year are being recycled and turned into tangible product such as rags and some are being broken down to reprocessed as sustainable fibers. But the figures never stop there because the carbon being produced in making that 2 million tons of clothing is about the same as the pollution from a million cars. Imagine how these can immensely affect our environment if not rip immediately. Organizations and companies across the world are working hand in hand to change if not totally end this sort of discrepancy. Though the case to have a more sustainable concept is still not being valve, being responsive about the issue is still a diminutive green proceed.
Creating Smart Cities Begins With Homes
Though many of us believe that creating smart cities with modern green infrastructures can generate a new urban mock-up, it is vital to know that the method of retrofitting to upgrade and the improvement of the resource efficiency in the housing sector is still the finest initial drift we have. According to a Home Horizons study, 50 percent of people consider energy-efficient home designs and green material a requirement of their home, more admired than any other perennial favorites. Many eco-conscious homeowners nowadays seek to lower their carbon footprint by purchasing and using greener appliances. Focusing fist to the small sector like the housing industry, it is no evident that little by little sustainability can be achieved.
Even Farmers Are Turning Green Too
Over the years, agricultural sector relied heavily on concentrated farming procedures that use chemical fertilizers, pesticides and other injurious products to raise crop efficiency. This operation alone caused severe ecological imbalance making a serious dispute to land and water environments. Today farmers are being imposed to put to end the usage of chemical pesticides and shift to a more environmental-friendly methods that will increase yields and reduce projected damage. They are being introduced to Trichoderma, genus of fungi that is present in all soils, where they are the most prevalent culturable fungi. They act as a guard against insects and toxins. This kind of fungus is widely used in different agricultural industries as a natural alternative to chemical pesticides we have at the moment. Though it is economical to use this new form of bio-control, the sum was not in general universal remedy. “A good prevention not the cure”, said Kean Sophea, the deputy director of the Department of Horticulture and Subsidiary Crops.
But the great thing is, many countries have begun implementing organic agricultural practices, increasing the use of green fertilizers, compost and biological pest control. There are many kinds of bio-organic products available in the market. In addition enhancing the management of production to ensure benefits of farmers with the mounting concrete standards is the main memo, Government should take into consideration.
The Rising Sensitivity is a Grand Thing
The fact that there is actually a big growth on the awareness velocity of each and every individual, we can really declare that sustainability is constantly flowing in our ecosystem. The sustainability methods and efforts should be shaped into the core DNA of the humanity. Further than that each sustainable practice should be for the long term epoch and will solve more problems that it creates.
