On January 30th, 2013, Agrion held its annual international energy and sustainability summit in Brussels. Discussing “European Projects and Regulation,” 400 participants heard from experts in the renewable energy, smart cities, smart grid, corporate sustainability, and energy efficiency fields. Business leaders, representatives from the public sector, and academics had the unique chance to come together and exchange experience and expertise to advance the conversation on energy & sustainability. Keynote speakers were Angus McCrone, the Chief Editor of Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Christine Lins, Executive Secretary of REN21, Eric Molinie Director of Sustainable Development and Counsellor to the Chair on Disability Issues at EDF, and Rebecca Taylor, MEP – Liberal Democrat from the European Union. Conference Speakers from the largest companies in Europe such as EDF, l’Oreal, Ernst & Young, Barklays Bank, A.P. Møller-Mærsk, and Ikea discussed their work, while government leaders from European Commission and the European Parliament, the UK, the Netherlands, and Denmark discussed current and future public policy initiatives. Attendees joined the conversation with questions and discussions. Conference sessions were separated by breaks, lunch, and cocktails throughout the day to enable valuable networking. Speakers and participants alike walked away with new contacts and information for continued development and new opportunities.
The attendees and speakers made this conference so successful that Agrion will begin programming beyond its French and German offices to connect industry professionals, thought leaders, and policy makers in a greater European community. Energy and Sustainability are global issues, and by working together we can find solutions on an international scale.
