Canada’s BC Bioenergy Network, a government-funded nonprofit, is providing a total of 1.5 million Canadian dollars for a waste-to-energy project that will divert 27,000 tons of organic material from landfills to create enough power for some 700 homes in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. The Energy Garden project of Fraser Richmond Soil and Fiber will use anaerobic digesters to convert food scraps and yard debris to biogas, producing more than 6,000 megawatt-hours of electricity each year.
