The largest single roof-mounted solar array in the US is set to make Atlantic City a “model for environmental leadership.” It was dedicated at the Atlantic City Convention Center (ACCC) in New Jersey last March 5.

The 2.37-megawatt (MW) rooftop solar power system is composed of 13,486 monocrystalline Solar Panels, covering 290,000 square feet. Annually, it can produce 26% of the ACCC’s total electrical consumption, while avoiding the release of 2,349 tons of carbon dioxide.

“With our economy and our planet in peril, it is imperative that we make the hard choices and big investments needed to change the way we produce and consume energy as a society,” says New Jersey Gov. John S. Corzine, referring to ACCC’s cooperation with his clean energy solutions.

Completed last December 2008, the solar project is part of a 20-year power purchase agreement with Virginia-based utility company, Pepco Energy Services.
