Digestion tanks can produce biogas and save energy in sewage plants—research

A study from the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany has found that small sewage plants can also produce biogas to generate electricity. Sewage plants remove organic matter from wastewater. The accumulating sludge then decays and biogas is generated as a by-product.

2,000 Indiana homes to be powered by landfill gas

In the US state of Indiana, a landfill gas-to-electricity project was officially opened yesterday (July 23) in the town of Winslow at Pike County. Called the Blackfoot Clean Energy Facility, the project is expected to generate 3.2 megawatts of electricity, which is enough to power around 2,000 homes.
