Vestas’ giant 7-MW turbine could be ‘Made in Port of Sheerness, U.K.’

Vestas Wind Systems A.S. is considering building its new giant 7-megawatt offshore wind turbine announced last April at a naval dockyard in the county of Kent, southeast of England. The Danish wind turbine maker signed an option to lease 70 hectares of land at the Port of Sheerness, about a month after it announced it was looking for a site on which to build its V164 7.0MW wind turbines.

Ecomarine Power to launch dragonfly-inspired solar-electric vessel in 2012

Eco Marine Power, a Japan-based company that develops solar, wind and electric marine power and propulsion systems, will launch its Tonbo Hybrid Marine Power solar-electric vessel next year. Tonbo, which means dragonfly in Japanese, has its 140 watt-solar modules mounted on the vessel on a wing-like manner. It will also feature lithium batteries that can be fully charged within two to four hours. These batteries, which can be charged by the solar modules, will enable the vessel to run on an all-electric mode.

Cogentrix eyeing $90.6-million D.O.E. loan guarantee for CPV project

The United States Department of Energy offered a conditional commitment for a $90.6 million loan guarantee to Cogentrix Energy L.L.C., a unit of Goldman Sachs Group Inc., to build the world’s largest concentrating solar photovoltaic power plant to be built in Colorado. The offer means the federal government is willing to secure Cogentrix’s loans to its creditors in the case of a default.

China carbon emissions could peak by 2025-2030: U.S. study

BEIJING, April 29 (Reuters) - China, the world's biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, could peak in emissions by 2030 or earlier, says a study from U.S. researchers who foresee Chinese demand for appliances, buildings and much industry reaching "saturation" around then. The study by energy and emissions experts at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California adds to a growing body of studies that say China could reach its maximum output of carbon dioxide (CO2) within two decades.

Nanosolar to supply Europe with 1 GW worth of printed thin-film solar

Nanosolar Inc., a solar start-up from San Jose, California, received contracts from three of Europe’s experienced renewable energy project developers to supply up to a gigawatt of copper indium gallium selenide-based thin-film solar panels.The company will supply Germany’s Belectric Trading GmbH and Plain Energy GmbH, and Paris-based utility EDF Energies Nouvelles SA with utility-grade thin-film solar panels over the next three to six years, according to a statement from Nanosolar.

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. gets $40-million contract to build Dallas Transit’s four C.N.G. stations

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. has received a $40-million contract to provide four compressed natural gas stations for Dallas Area Rapid Transit. The transit agency has awarded the contract as part of its plan to deploy a transit fleet powered by the alternative fuel.The building of the fueling stations is due to start next month and is scheduled to finish by April 2012. The stations will power DART’s 452 buses and 200 paratransit vehicles running on compressed natural gas.

Biofuels need a $ 13-trillion investment - I.E.A report

Biofuels play an important role in slashing carbon dioxide emissions if produced via the right technology and method, but this entails an investment worth as much as $13 trillion, a report from the International Energy Agency showed. The I.E.A. report presented the sustainability issues surrounding biofuel production, as the agency deemed biofuels a key solution to the rising demand for transport fuel along with the growing transport sector.
