Sempra and BP Wind invest $1 billion in two U.S. wind farms

Sempra US Gas & Power and BP Wind Energy agreed to jointly invest more than $1 billion to develop the Mehoopany Wind Farm in Pennsylvania and the Flat Ridge 2 Wind Farm in Kansas. The wind farms, to be operated by BP, will start working by the end of the year with a combined output of 560 megawatts. The two farms are both to be the largest ever built in their respective states, according to a statement.

Investor Warren Buffett’s Des Moines-based MidAmerican Energy Co. will be developing three new wind projects in Iowa with total output of 404.8 megawatts. Cliffs Natural Resources sells Renewafuel

Mining company Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. has reached an agreement for the asset sale of its previously discontinued “Renewafuel” biomass facility in Michigan, to RNFL Acquisition L.L.C., an acquisition entity by an investor group which includes Renewafuel’s minority partners. The Renewafuel brand will also be transferred to RNFL Acquisition. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
